oh boy…
first off… hacking Apple products is called Jailbreaking, since you have to bypass Apple…….. hacking Android is called ROOTING cuase your bypassing the carriers crap.. Unlike Apple, Google endorses Rooting of their own phones!
anyways check www.androidcentral.com…….. if a rooted method was eve rmade, it would be in the Archos Forums…
Now, Rooting only gives your SuperUsers permissions… It wont install your Windows or Linux on it.. .. now….. this is when you PRAY to God!!!!!!!!…………. Pray someone on this planet made a WindowsVista/win7/Linux /Ubuntu ROM for the Archos 2.8 Tablet, cuase ROMs are make/model specific… a ROM for the Motorola XOOM wont work for Archos… A ROM for the HTC Flyer wont work on Archos… A ROM made for the Droid x is ONLY for Droid x… Therefore, pray you find a Windows/Linux ROM… it will be listed there in Android Central too.
Good luck

I don’t think you understand what jailbreaking is. Jailbreaking refers to unlocking iOS based devices to remove Apple’s restrictions. You do not have to jailbreak Android devices, because they don’t have the restrictions Apple devices have. There is something called rooting, that unlocks some extra features, but that doesn’t sound like what you want. Jailbreaking (or rooting in the case of Android) will not allow a different OS to be installed.
The only way to install a different OS is if someone makes a ROM of that OS for your device. The best places to check for such things are xda-developers.com and androidcentral.com. If there is no ROM for your device you cannot install that OS. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you should first learn more about Android and how it works (the previously mentioned sites will help you) before trying to make unofficial modifications. Installing a ROM incorrectly can turn your expensive device into a paperweight.
