You should be using this software to check your live links which are indexed and not indexed. Any link which is indexed will count towards increasing your ranking in Google. Use the filters to identify the more powerful links: do follow, indexed, high domain pr, correct anchor text with your target keyword. Build more links to these links to make them more powerful. Ensuring your links are indexed at every level of tier will ensure that all of your links count towards increasing your rankings.
Most definitely better than any online service, simply because none of them will check multi tier links. One online service tried to launch this about a year ago, but the server could not handle the volume of link checks. The cost of the service would have been much higher than $100 per month to support the expensive server costs of supporting multiple customers and their links. You would also be lucky to get a single link check within a 24 hour period. Backlink monitor is a one off cost.
There is nothing else similar. Not anything that checks mutli tier links and provides the seo metrics on the links from all tiers. Scrapebox is the closest thing but only does tier 1 links, not multi tier links. Online services will only do tier 1 links as well, plus will charge more each month for having more links in the account.
